Determine what’s important to you and your family

Set aside time from your busy schedule to figure out the important things in your life.  Spend some time by listing them.  The important things in your life should be reflected in your budget, in other words your checkbook.  If you enjoy spending time with your family, then this should be clear in your budget.  If your goal is to work towards accomplishing your dreams such as opening up a restaurant, then your expenditures should be focused on just that.  Maybe you are just content on living comfortably or just surviving.  Whatever you value, let it be transparent through your checkbook by the direction of your budget.
